Plastic Cash

This Slate article on countries switching to plastic (sorry, polymer) currency put me in mind of two things: the eternal attempt to reform U.S. coinage by abolishing the penny and shifting from dollar notes to dollar coins, and my experience with Romanian money last summer. I like to think of myself as a rational animal, but even the cost savings involved in swapping our current cloth money for slick 21st century plastic notes wouldn't do away with my aesthetic displeasure at having to deal with slippery, patchily transparent funny money. Oh well. If we ever do switch, I'll keep my polymer dollars in one of these.
